Packing

If you plan to go to Suzhou or anywhere else in China -- or most of the world, for that matter -- it's absoultely necessary that you pack light.  The method I like to use (see picture) has been time-tested on many a backpacking trip during my years in Boy Scouting/Venture Scouting.
The first order of business is to gather up your gear and clothing.  In my case, I needed to bring a month's worth of toiletries (especially toilet paper and hand soap, which often aren't readily available in most public -- and some private -- restrooms in China), 7 days worth of summer clothing, clothing for rainy days (which occurred in June near the end of our stay in Suzhou, closer to the Monsoon season of July), electronic devices including cords and proper power adapters (220w+), first aid kit, important travel documents with copies of these and anything else that you might deem necessary.
